Isaiah 64:8"Yet, O Lord you are our Father. We are the clay,you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." 
God is our creator: we did not create ourselves. When we realize that God created us and gave us all we have, as a result, we will want to give to others as God has given us. Then, even if everything is gone, we will not despair because we still have God with us and he can give back to us the things that we have lost.
